Types of Fabrics

Types of fabrics we mostly use in designing clothes for women

Brocade

It is a heavy fabric with a luxurious hand and slightly raised motives specially of jacquard pattern it is generally very experience due to use of 6-8 number of harnesses and is mostly used for decorative apparel fabric.



Chiffon

It is a light weight fabric sheer in mature made of pain weave. In this fabric the filament yarns are highly twisted due to which it has got high bounce in it and so it is suitable for dresses sarees etc.




crepe

It is a fabric with a pebbly or crinkled surface which is obtained by using high twist yarns which is treated 
chemically to create a smooth and bouncy effect. It is generally used for sarees, dresses wedding wear, etc.





Crepe back satin

It is generally a satin fabric with crepe like effect on the reverse side of satin. In this type of fabric highly twisted yarn are used either in warp or weft direction which in turn gives a rough and pebbly crepe effect on the dull side of the fabric.






Georgette

It is a light weight sheer fabric with crepe like effect on the surface which is usually having same high twist yarn in both warp and weft direction which in turn creates a bouncy and free flowing effect in the fabric. 







ORGANDY

It is  a light weight plain weave cotton type fabric with an open construction. It has got a fine spun yarn with a stiff finish which makes it look very coarse and stiff due to which when garment is stitched out of this fabric it adds bulk to the weaver. It is generally used for summer wear, curtains, sarees, etc.






Organza

It is similar to Organdy except that it is made up of self or man made filament fiber. this fabric is also stiff and provides girth to the weaver. It is generally used for heavy embroider sarees, dresses, trimming details etc.





Sateen

It is a medium weight cotton type fabric made of sateen weave. It is semi lustrous on the surface and is generally used for linings in coats and blazers, rest and even shoe uppers.




satin

It is a medium weight fabric with filament yarn made out of satin weave and has fine closely woven warp yarns. this are highly lustrous fabric reverse which is rough in texture. This fabric is used for lining in heavy embroidered dresses or can be used as the fabric itself. Satin has got different varieties in it such as Antique Satin, Crepe back satin, Duchess satin etc.



velvet
It is a medium weight fabric with synthetic or silk filament yarn fabric with cut pile effect on the surface of the fabric which stands erect and gives a texture on the surface of the fabric. It is generally used for western dresses home furnishings, upholstery etc.
